Marburg, 1991/6/29

I hereby inform you that yesterday afternoon I donated your accumulated profits, totalling just under 37.84 million Deutschmarks, in their entirety. The funds have been transferred to the accounts of various hospices and palliative care centres outside Europe. It is irretrievably lost to you.

Do not misunderstand me: your greed did not make me angry. No, over the years it has simply bored me to death. I am fully aware of the implications of my actions. But I do not care in the slightest. You are welcome to sue me, but you will not find me. Never again. My family is not involved.

By the time you read this, the press office will already have been informed. My office has been cleared out. The new coffee machine in the lobby is broken, and I’m giving the brass trophy in the display cabinet to Ms Pieper from Logistics.
